Matthew B. Efird, an attorney with Robinson Bradshaw, has been elected to the North Carolina Motorsports Association’s Board of Directors. Efird will serve a three-year term.

The NCMA promotes the motorsports industry in North Carolina by providing legislative and regulatory representation at the state and local levels, supporting the development of economic impact studies for the industry in North Carolina and securing training opportunities for NCMA members through relationships at universities, community colleges and technical schools. Founded in 2002, NCMA’s members range from race teams and tracks to attorneys and accountants.

“I had the opportunity to work with Matt at The Racing Attorney Conference and witnessed firsthand his knowledge and understanding of both the major players in the motorsports world and the business behind the industry,” said Greg Fornelli, chair of the NCMA board of directors. “His knowledge, as well as his professionalism, is exactly what we look for in our board members and we know that Matt will have an immediate impact on the board.”

Efird practices with the firm’s corporate group in the areas of sports and entertainment law, fund formation and investment management, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate law. He has substantial experience representing teams, drivers, sponsors and agents in NASCAR and other motorsports series, including in connection with the negotiating, drafting and interpreting driver agreements, sponsorship agreements, personal services and endorsement agreements, license agreements, and car and engine lease and servicing agreements. He has experience in the formation and representation of, and the representation of investors in, private investment funds, including buyout, venture capital, real estate and funds of funds.

Efird is also a member of the planning committee of The Racing Attorney Conference and he currently serves as the vice-chair of the Sports & Entertainment Law Section Council of the North Carolina Bar Association. He will be taking over as chair of the Section Council on July 1.

Efird earned his law degree with honors from Wake Forest University where he was awarded the Order of the Coif.
