Recruiting

Professionalism and Teamwork

Our first priority is to provide our clients with the highest quality of legal service. To achieve this we hire talented lawyers and emphasize that the client comes first. We foster teamwork among our lawyers by not compensating or evaluating each other based on objective measurements of individual lawyers' “billable hours” or “origination credits.”

This approach has brought us remarkable success in building long-term relationships with our clients. It also has created a uniquely supportive, cooperative and non-bureaucratic environment within our firm, free from internal competition and politics.

Is someone putting Prozac in the water at Robinson Bradshaw? The associates seem just a little too happy: “I love it here. I never thought I would be this happy in a law firm.” “I turn down the headhunters without calling them back.” “I couldn’t imagine working at another large firm.” “No job is perfect, but working at RBH is pretty darn close. The work is interesting, the lawyers are exceptionally bright and kindhearted, plus Charlotte is a vibrant and welcoming community.

A Balanced Life

We expect our lawyers to lead balanced lives. Any lawyer must do whatever is necessary to help a client solve a problem or complete a project, so daily or weekly schedules are difficult to control. But over time, our lawyers are expected to have time to devote to their families and friends, to community service, and to their personal interests. If client demands are preventing that from happening, we rearrange responsibilities to help the lawyer find the right balance.

Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson was recognized in 2005 for “creating an environment that fosters and encourages balanced lives in an increasingly diverse and competitive legal market” when we received the first Balanced Life Award from the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.

Your Development As A Lawyer

Our interests, our clients' interests and your interests are best served by having you quickly gain the skills necessary to respond at a high level to a variety of legal challenges. We achieve this by giving you the opportunity to work in all of our practice areas as a new associate. We seek to have you work independently and to have direct contact with clients. We expect each new lawyer to become a partner in the firm, so we train and mentor you with that expectation. Our clients will present you with challenging and interesting projects. Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson is a superb place for a bright law student to learn how to be a good lawyer.

“New associates work closely with shareholders and senior associates across all of the firm's practice areas and have significant responsibilities from an early point in their careers, which is not only rewarding for associates, but also reinforces the firm's efforts to provide well-rounded, effective lawyers to its clients and exhibits a commitment to the development of its young lawyers in anticipation that those lawyers will spend their careers with RBH.”

Our Summer Program

Our goal is to let you see what it's like to be a lawyer in our firm. We encourage you to work in a variety of different substantive areas of the law and to participate in pro bono activities. You'll enjoy challenging projects involving significant interaction with clients and other attorneys. You'll observe trials, negotiations, closings and depositions. As an additional element of advice and support, we assign you two mentors while you're with us.

We want you to get to know our lawyers and our community as well. Throughout the summer, we have many activities such as rafting trips, cultural events, dinners at attorneys' homes and impromptu social outings.

“The summer program at RBH allows summer associates to experience first-hand the firm's flexible approach to a new lawyer's development and its overall dedication to creating a supportive, collegial environment. Summer associates are encouraged to explore their interests by working on a variety of projects, and the firm's attorneys are genuinely committed to getting to know each summer associate through both work projects and fun social events. For my part, I saw in a few short weeks how RBH puts its values into practice and knew that working here would be a unique opportunity.”

One of "America's Greatest Places to Work With a Law Degree"

We were pleased to be included in the recent book, America's Greatest Places to Work With a Law Degree, in which the author Kimm Walton chose the top firms based on interviews with over 170 law school career counselors. Her criterion was to find the law firms throughout the country with the happiest, most satisfied law graduates.

“They have an amazing management philosophy, one of a kind.”
