Robert E. Harrington, an attorney with Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A., has been installed as president-elect of the Mecklenburg County Bar for the organization’s 2011-12 term that begins July 1. Harrington will serve as president in 2012-13.
Harrington’s practice includes a range of commercial litigation matters, with focuses on the representation of consumer lenders, financial institutions in their capacity as fiduciaries, and the defense of employment actions. He is a member of the North Carolina, Louisiana and District of Columbia bars.
He has been an active member of the Mecklenburg County Bar, having served as its treasurer and as a member of its board of directors and executive committee. He has been a member of the Bar’s Special Committee on Diversity since its creation in 2004 and has served as the committee’s co-chair. Harrington has also co-chaired the board of directors of the National Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
Harrington earned his bachelor’s degree from Duke University, where he graduated magna cum laude and was an Angier B. Duke Memorial Scholar. He also attended Duke University Law School, where he graduated with high honors.
Harrington was recently named a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and he has been an elected member of the American Law Institute since 1995. He is included in Woodward/White, Inc.’s The Best Lawyers in America in commercial litigation and among North Carolina Super Lawyers in business litigation. He also holds an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Harrington received the Citizen Lawyer Award in 2009 from the North Carolina Bar Association and was honored by the Charlotte Business Journal as a Diversity in Business Catalyst in 2004.
He is an active member of the Charlotte cultural community, serving as a member of the board of directors of the Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust and the board of directors of the Levine Museum of the New South, which he has chaired. He also served as chair of the Equity Committee of the Board of Education of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
