Mr. Caldwell is a recognized industry leader in sports law. For over 20 years, Mr. Caldwell has provided legal counsel to a variety of motorsports teams, drivers, owners, sponsors, agents, crew members, licensors and licensees. His experience includes creation, negotiation, interpretation and dispute resolution with respect to driver agreements, sponsorship agreements, personal services and license agreements, endorsements agreements, television and film agreements, employment agreements, digital rights agreements, engine lease and servicing agreements, race car and race team servicing agreements, agency agreements and other types of motorsports arrangements. His perspective is unique. He has had the extensive opportunity to work with these types of agreements and arrangements from many angles, including the driver perspective, team perspective, agent perspective and sponsor perspective.
Mr. Caldwell also has an extensive background with financing arrangements, corporate and structuring mergers and acquisitions. His practice includes the formation, purchase and sale of motorsports and other sports teams, creation of joint venture and servicing arrangements and the purchase and sale of various other types of entities with strategic and financial investors and sellers.
Mr. Caldwell’s practice also includes sports matters beyond motorsports. He has worked on matters for conferences, golfers, retired athletes and major sponsorships in Major League Baseball, The National Basketball Association and The National Football League.
Mr. Caldwell is a frequent speaker on sports law including seminars for the North Carolina Bar Association, the Sports Lawyers Association, The Racing Attorney Conference (TRAC) and the ABA Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries.
Mr. Caldwell served as a Banking Officer for Dominion Bankshares Corporation from 1978-82 and Bank of Boston from 1982-84.
